GETTING THERE?
Cuba is approximately a 10 hour flight from London or 12 from Manchester.
All the major tour operators offer All Inclusive stays for 7 or 14 nights.
Varadero, Cayo Coco, Guardalavaca and the capital Havana are the most popular choice of stay.
MONEY? Important Update Please Note - as of 8 Nov 2004, the convertible Peso is the only recognised currency in Cuba. This is a closed currency and cannot be taken in or out of Cuba. It is recommended to take cash or travellers cheques in UK Sterling or Euros, which can be exchanged in Cuba for the convertible Peso. Customers are advised not to take US Dollars as a 10% surcharge will apply to conversion. Credit Cards, debit cards and travellers cheques that have been issued in the US or by a bank affiliated to the US in any way for example, MBNA, AMEX, Capital One, Switch etc. are not accepted. Guests are advised to check with their bank before travelling.
Please be aware that from 27 November 2004 no travellers cheques of any currency can be accepted in any hotel reception in Cuba. There are, however, banks in every resort that are open for limited hours that accept travellers cheques.Take VISA/MASTERCARD ONLY.
LANGUAGE? Spanish but English is widely spoken.
TIME? Cuba is 5 hours behind GMT.
WEATHER? Cuba is Sub-tropical so expect temperatures in the 80's or 90's.
It does rain in Cuba between the months of July-October.
HEALTH? Firstly the drinking water it's advisable to buy bottled water from the hotel shop. Mosquitos are present in Cuba especially at dusk. We advise that you purchase repellant on arrival at the hotel shop, more effective than the brands from the UK.
Vaccinations are recommended for Hepatitis A, Polio, Tetanus and Typhoid.
VISAS? Getting into the country you need a tourist card, your tour operator will include it in your holiday cost and you must complete it for all members of your party including children. When departing Cuba you will have to pay a departure tax at the airport of 25 Convertible Pesos (CUCs)
PLEASE NOTE: Take all toiletries, cosmetics and Medicinal items with you as supplies are limited in Cuba. The hotel shops stock such things as shampoo, soap etc but can be very expensive
